35 Years Together: It All Began With Four Steps

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Philip B.—and the four original products that built the brand: Rejuvenating Oil, Peppermint Avocado Shampoo, Lightweight Deep Conditioner, and Detangling Toning Mist. They were created as solutions for clients who had access to everything, yet still couldn't fix what mattered most: dry, damaged hair; itchy scalps; breakage; dandruff; and even conditions like psoriasis. What they regained was what many believed was gone forever: youthful texture, body, bounce, and shine. Normally functioning scalps. The freedom to confidently move forward in a healthy, beautiful way.

I see myself as a problem-solver for hair and scalp. Even doctors have called me a healer. I love that, because I've always believed one truth: Your face is the picture. Your hair is the frame. When the frame looks great, the entire image looks younger, brighter, and more vibrant.

From the beginning, I worked with natural elements: plant-derived amino acids, shea butter, and medical-grade botanical essential oils and extracts—responsibly blended at proper dosing levels to deliver visible results. Not diluted cosmetic ingredients. Real actives, in their purest form.

It started with Rejuvenating Oil.

While hand-blending essential oils and studying hair and scalp biology, I discovered something transformative: creating a sebum-like supplement could even out the hair's porosity, allowing damaged ends to feel as healthy as the roots. This didn't just restore surface shine—it rebuilt the hair's internal balance, even on hair with extensive damage from color, bleach, chemical straightening, or heat styling. It also addresses scalp imbalances: dryness, dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and clears away stubborn plaques.

Here's what fascinated me most: like anything that dehydrates, hair contracts over time. The shaft narrows and shrinks as it grows from the scalp, beginning full and supple—like a plum—and gradually becoming more like a prune. By restoring the hair's diameter, you don't just bring back thickness; you return the structural integrity within each fiber, revealing length you didn't even know you'd lost.

I also learned that essential oils are the medicine, and carrier oils are the delivery system. When combined correctly, they restore lipids, softness, and resilience. The result is a multi-faceted treatment that dissolves buildup, detoxifies the scalp, and restores normal function and weight—allowing hair to move with natural swing and sway while reflecting light the way it was meant to. Next came Peppermint Avocado Shampoo.

I wanted a shampoo that rebooted you—not just cleansed. Using medical-grade peppermint oil, I created a formula that works like a local anesthetic for the scalp, releasing tension in the head muscles, stimulating circulation, and supporting follicle function by helping nutrients reach the root through healthy blood flow. The first time my clients experienced it, their reactions were immediate and profound. Just one shampoo releases the day's accumulated fatigue—people feel refreshed, awake, and clear. The formula also regulates oil production beautifully, so those with oily scalps can shampoo less often and hair stays fresh longer.

To complete the system, I created Lightweight Deep Conditioner—formulated with shea butter and plant-derived amino acids to seal in restored lipids without weight. It preserves bounce, movement, and softness—never heavy, never greasy.

The final step was Detangling Toning Mist—designed to rebalance the scalp and hair's acid mantle, the skin's protective pH layer. Healthy hair and scalp function around pH 5.5, while tap water everywhere sits at pH 7 or higher—designed for survival, not beauty. That elevated pH disrupts harmony: the cuticle lifts, moisture escapes, irritation increases, and hair loses manageability. Using apple cider vinegar, the mist restores balance by adjusting the pH within the hair and on the scalp itself. Just 5-6 spritzes smooth the cuticle, enhance shine, support scalp health, and make your comb-out a snap.

At the heart of everything was a simple truth: light is life. When lipids are restored and the cuticle regains translucency, light refracts through the hair—brightening highlights, deepening lowlights, and bringing dimension and energy to the hair—which in turn makes your face light up. Hair may be biologically "dead," but it never has to look that way.
